Luke 14.1, 7-14
I was taking a locum stint at an Adelaide parish some 12 or 13 years ago. I had preached a sermon in which I had unpacked some Greek word or other. As is often the case with sermons, by the time the after match function was drawing to a close, my point was long forgotten . However a gentleman emerged from the toilets, which he had been mopping out, and engaged me for some twenty minutes or so in an exhilarating chat about the passage I had attempted to ‘break
open’. Discussion over, he went back to his lowly task. ‘Who was that?’ I asked my host warden. ‘Bishop Bruce’. Bishop Bruce was well respected throughout Australia for his scholarship and pastoral leadership. Bishop Bruce was mopping the toilets. There are some who desperately draw attention to themselves, lacking identity, craving recognition. There are others who simply allow Christ to take over their lives, running dioceses or mopping toilets to the glory of God.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
This week we continue our study of the Lords
prayer. The children are making prayer bracelets as an assistant to prayer. Ask them about their bracelets. You may be surprised at what they have chosen to pray for, and what each bead represents.
Don’t forget our whanau hui TODAY, for all those interested in children and youth ministry, after the 9:30am service. Next Sunday is Fathers Day, and we are planning something special. Bring your Dad along and/or someone else significant to you if possible, and prepare them for a treat.
Coming up there is a Parents Inc evening Hot Tips on Parenting Tweens and Teens on Wednesday Sept. 15th at 7:30pm. See www.theparentingplace.com for further details. Have a great week
